In which I suggest who will cover Preview for the rest of 2013

Any Preview fanatic (which includes myself and my friend K) should know that 2013 is the country's Style Bible's 18th Birthday -- a metaphor that the magazine is mature enough for the world to start noticing

No word yet as to who will grace the anniversary cover. (I'm predicting Twitter-trending girl-of-the-moment Julia Barreto is on it, probably alongside other girls.) But with a few more days for them to start on their July issue -- mags are working at least two months ahead -- here are the ladies who could possibly cover Preview:

Loren Legarda. She's a Senatorial candidate and she's constantly ranked number one in election surveys so that means she's IT and will likely get her last term in the Senate. She's also a notable patroness of indigenous arts and culture, often seen incorporating native threads with her classy style. #PreviewBestDressed

Sunshine Cruz. Well, she's comebacking and recently embroiled in a domestic drama with hubby actor Cesar Montano, and she's still looking like a vamp in every way.

Double September Covers: Team Kim Chiu or Team Maja Salvador. Preview Poll-style: readers will pick either the Kim or the Maja cover. Each purchase counts as a vote for either parties.Let's take sides! This idea is just crazy. But because their on- and off-cam spat is topical, an issue featuring the two is well-timed.

Karylle. She's talented -- can really (operative word: really) act, dance and sing. A shoe-in for the Creative Issue.

November is Beauty Issue, so why not put together the diversity of Filipina beauty: three stars respectively representing morena, mestiza and chinita? Oh, for morena: Bianca Gonzalez. It's been years since she was on the cover. Um, but isn't she editor-at-large of a magazine from rival publishing company? If that is so, would it be ever possible?

For the December ish,  to balance this list which is heavy on Kapamilya stars, someone Kapuso with enough star power. There is Jennylyn Mercado, or Lovi Poe, or both.

Remembering Multiply

I signed in on Multiply in high school because of peer pressure (ha!), my techie classmates were all posting stuff on it and I just want to follow what things are "on the radar." After some time, I would have it used mainly to ogle at party photos of some pre-Gossip Girls teens who like to parteyy!, and to stalk someone who had become the collective crush of myself and some friends after seeing him in an issue of Candy magazine -- yes, a Candy Cutie; and still to get updates of my classmates's rants and raves. I will digress: the cutie who was a performance arts kind of guy turned out to become a promising fashion guy.

I saw the 'end of Multiply' news first on Chuvaness.com.

Closure Announcement

Multiply is closing on May 6
We regret to announce that Multiply will be closing on May 6, 2013 and ceasing all business operations by May 31, 2013.
Multiply will maintain normal site operations through May 6. We will use the rest of May to make sure the all accounts are settled and that merchants receive full payment for all the transactions they completed on our platform. This will also provide our merchants with time to find and migrate to alternative ecommerce platforms, settle all payments on items bought and delivered, and to minimize disruption to their businesses.
Multiply will ensure that you receive all funds you earned on the platform no later than May 31, 2013. We will close the actual marketplace sooner, on May 6, 2013, to ensure that all orders have sufficient time to complete and be delivered to your customers before the end of the month.
Merchants who have premium subscriptions should contact our customer support and we will ensure that they receive a full refund for the un-used time on your subscription.
Today, I tried logging in to my account but I cannot anymore. Actually I no longer know what my username was/is. When I tried visiting the account of my block during my first year in Legal Management, the link always gets redirected to the site's home interface. Maybe when Multiply got into its Marketplace incarnate, those blog and group accounts have been ceased. I wish I was able to lift some things from it before those mostly follies and shits I posted were deleted. I wish I also did the same before the death of Friendster. Sigh.

Since I really got into it back in those days, I just want to say: Thanks for being part of the ghetto-est time of my life, Multiply.

Election

I'm not going to talk about that nice movie of Don't you know who I am a.k.a. Reese Witherspoon. Rather, this is about the coming National Mid-term Elections on May 13th.

I live in Camarines Sur -- or Cam Sur to be cool  -- a province which, in tourist-speak, is synonymous to extreme hobbies and Survivor-worthy beaches and has practically become one of the country's fancy political playground due foremost to the 'Hati Camsur' propaganda, which has taken a backseat apparently.

After that, well:

Incumbent Cam Sur 3rd District Representative incumbent Congressman Luis R. Villafurte is comeback-ing for the gubernatorial post he left nine years ago to his son, incumbent Gov. L-Ray Villafuerte, who is running for the 2nd District Rep position against CGMA's youngest son, Rep. Dato Arroyo. The elder and the son is currently on a quite shameful and disgraceful wordwar. Gov. L-Ray's son Migz "L-Ray Jr." is pitted against his grandpa, and two others, namely, former Solicitor General Atty. Jose Anselmo "Joel" Imperial Cadiz of P-Noy's Liberal Party, a katukayo Joel Pelo and (I don't know they are five in the race) William Iliw Iliw.

Meanwhile Sec. Jesse Robredo's widow and Atty. Leni is running against Cong. Luis wife, Atty. Nelly Villafuerte for the post that the elder male Villafuerte will leave comes June 30, 2013.

So, total headcount of the Villafuertes in the race: Four.

Also, Aga Muhlach is vying for the 4th District (Partido area) Rep. post.

Cam Sur is the place to be. Tara!

No, I won't sound off which persons I will be voting for the local race, but what's certain is that my partylist vote goes to Ang LADLAD Party-List (#28).

Basically what I witnessed on TV this week

  • Did you watch the 2013 MTV Movie Awards? Although Rebel Wilson was quite awkwardly funny with her lines, the rest of the festivity was less, well, festive than its previous incarnations , proved by some presenters looking like "Uh-I'm-just-doing-a-professional-obligation-here-f***" (i.e. Amanda Seyfried) and having WTF-are-they-saying? moments (i.e. Adam Sandler and Chris Rock) and those reaction shots of celebs looking unamused (also see: bored.) Easily a highlight was the Star Trek cast presenting the Best Fight award to The Avengers guys plus director Joss Whedon. [Daily Mail UK]The Only 17 Things To Talk About From The MTV Movie Awards
  • Definitely a tough week for the U.S.: first was the bombing during Boston Marathon, then days later the massive blast in a fertilizer plant in Texas.
As of today, one of the bombing suspects, a man of 19 years, has already been apprehended after a manhunt where the other suspect who happened to be his older brother got killed.

*cough* links

Rogue magazine, one of the few high-caliber glossies in terms of content and design in the Philippine scene, is currently on double trouble. First for publishing an excerpt sans due permission and then (while it looks like a publicity stunt) April cover girl actress G Toengi on a protest for an NSFW-worthy exposure.

Now that we're in copyrights talks, a blog has called out top fashion designers for allegedly copying designs from the distant past. (Fashionista) Nothing's original, we know.

Ever the leading champion of personal style, Lookbook.nu has done an MTV/Lifestyle-style scripted series on -- what else? -- fashion diary posting. (Fashionista)  We Luv Dramas.

Blah blah blah

Some family and I are going to Laguna for my lady cousin's 18th birthday post-celebration Monday next week, meaning having fun with a capital F.

Tomorrow as I was told, we leave; but I still haven't packed, especially the more-important stuff: the clothes to wear. Not one to worry on packing, I'm a very good mother-packer. Packing light is my specialty. I once went on a weekend 2-day tour during college with only a large canvas tote from Giordano, my clothes (including underwear) + toiletries all, albeit piled, in there. For weekends away, I have my trusty tartan overnight bag.

I'm just concerned about the clothes I should bring since the trip is city break + party-resort holiday- in-one. My goal is not to bring as many clothes that I have to use a wheeled luggage bag.

I'm excited though, I cannot wait to see them relatives I haven't face-timed with in years.

UPDATE: Change of plan: we will be in L.A.-GUNA for almost a week -- more time for, hopefully, a change in perspective. And I'm still going for the "no-rolling suitcase" rule. I'm ready!

UPDATE 2.0 (04/11): We were in S.P. until Tuesday morning only. Another change of plan. I slept at around 4 AM in our room (in the resort) and had to wake up at 6 to go back to host-relative's home and prep for the scheduled 8 AM trip back to Bicol.

Unsolicited advice for girls # 1

Lavander nails are oh-so-nice,

but the black-colored french tips are oh-so-no-way.

At first glance, it's like under her nails are dirt -- dirt in every fingernails. Gross! Cannot unsee! Cannot get used to this!

I repeat, don't turn your leaf into the black- / black-looking- tipped side.  DO NOT even DARE. To   rephrase something quoted from smart-arse and stylish Alexa Chung: stick on the classic french manicure and you can't ever be wrong.

serious shortage of the appropriate black tops

Baao, Camarines Sur -- This morning, the final interment arrangement for dear Uncle Mutsi took place as he (well, technically, his ashes gathered in an urn), after more than a month since he passed away, was finally laid to rest very close by my lolo and lola's final resting place here on earth.

On a light note, his siblings (my mother included) have come and gathered for a rare sweet moment.

Coincidentally, today would have been another year in his life.

P.S. I wore a dark blue jumper instead.

P.P.S. I'm using my doha-based uncle's laptop with arabic characters on its keyboard. something borrowed.
