Local Scenery

If not for the long queue for box-office hit du jour This Guy's In Love With U Mare! last weekend, we won't have got cold feet to watch the movie which was being shown only in one of the four cinemas in SM Naga.

But alas, it was only until last Monday night that we (me-co-worker tandem) caught up the comedrama. That's exactly what the plot of the loosely No Other Woman-based parody is. For the most part of the exposition, the usual smile-smirk-chuckle-snicker-laugh- worthy antics and lines fit for a categorically comedy movie were naturally present; then, after an hour or so, there came in that point of the story with the dose of drama element, see also as: reality-kicking-in phase, among the characters of Vice Ganda, Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano.

At the end of the movie, I had to tell to my companion, (in Bikol-Filipino,) "I can say, the trailer alone could show anyone the whole Love Triangle Story and where it would most probably lead to."

Let's talk more *local* movies

Days ago, I chanced upon seeing the trailer of the sleeper hit (N.O.W.)'s follow-up, Secret Affair. The Anne Curtis-Derek Ramsey pairing is back once more, with Andi Eigenmann (replacing what would have been reportedly KC Concepcion's post) this time.

By the looks of it, the film is in the same vein as N.O.W. but with a twist -- Derek's character (a cheat again)   and Anne's character (getting a taste of her previous charcacter's own medicine) are now the couple, and Andi's character is the other woman, possibly Derek's character's ex, yet still ex with benefits. Obviously, the plot looks the same, insert sing-song: "Love Triangle Story." For the metaphors and what the twist would be, still, this is a must-see.

Notably, there's a genre going on in the local movie scene: the Filipino "affair"/mistress movie. Almost after a year since N.O.W., the Bea Alonzo-John Lloyd Cruz-starrer The Mistress was shown. Next, there's A.S.F.; meanwhile, on the TV front, the current every commercial gap staple on ABS-CBN is the trailer of an upcoming soap, A Beautiful Affair.

The common ground: two same sex-one opposite sex ratio. Might as well add T.G.I.L.W.U.M. among them, yes?

P.S. For a different perspective, the saccharine sweet-looking (literally for the apparent appearances of cakes and cupcakes and figuratively for the cute combo of Erich Gonzales and Thai Heartthrob Mario Maurer), feel-good movie Suddenly It's Magic is a palate cleanser.

P.P.S. Cheating is a choice.
